Vehicles & Equipment
Southern Chester County Emergency Medical Services (SCCEMS) possess a modern fleet of paramedic response vehicles that utilize state-of-the-art technology used to provide rapid, safe and efficient delivery of the SCCEMS paramedic and the life-saving equipment needed for assistance.
Our fleet consists of four-wheel drive capable Ford Explorers, Ford Expedition, and Ford F-150 responder vehicles. These vehicles cost approximately $65,000 to purchase and with increased utilization, meet their service lifetime of 120,000 miles in only 6 years time.
Each vehicle in the fleet has modern high visibility striping, emergency lighting and is outfitted with a mobile data computer (MDC) linked to the Chester County 9-1-1 call center. This MDC not only provides dispatch and premise data for all dispatches, but also has a global positioning system (GPS) moving map display to assist with incident location identification.
Radio communications in the vehicle consist of radios for both Chester and Lancaster Counties as well as high band frequencies for the local fire departments. In addition to the electronics, each vehicle carries personal protective equipment, WMD protective equipment, water rescue equipment and light vehicle rescue tools.
Each SCCEMS paramedic carries with them state-of-the-art advanced life support equipment to provide the highest quality care to patients. Biotechnology for the SCCEMS paramedic is centered around the Philips Tempus cardiac monitor. This $50,000 piece of equipment provides advanced assessment of heart rhythm, blood oxygen content, blood pressure, cardio-respiratory status and end-tidal capnography. The unit also provides cardiac defibrillation as well as trans-thoracic pacing capabilities.
In addition to the cardiac monitor, SCCEMS paramedics have a tool bag of equipment and medications used to stabilize a patient’s condition at the bedside or accident scene. Essentially, the SCCEMS paramedic along with their equipment can bring emergency room capability directly to the patient.
